NEW SITE WHO DIS + MUDROOM PLANNING

Where do I begin?! It feels like I’ve had so much to talk about and no time to really write. As most of you know, my focus has been on the ups and downs of re-planning a wedding and also working on getting our house plans going. All fun stuff but I never realized how much time it could take up. Also, the domain for The Girlfriend Review was about to expire. I felt like this was a good thing because I never felt super connected to it. So, I let the time pass and focused on the other priorities in my life. Now I’ve got a new domain and about to have a new last name! Woo!! I’m so excited to start a new chapter.

This last week we have spent a ton of time focusing on the interiors of our mudroom. Although it’s a small space, it’s an important one for us. Our foyer is going to be absolutely beautiful but since we do live on a working ranch we need space for dirty boots, hats, rain jackets, keys…you get the picture. Philip was totally against an Pinterest worthy mudroom and I was against metal racks with stuff randomly stored everywhere. Needless to say this caused some tension and fun conversation. After about a week of talking (me crying) we have a beautiful mudroom planned out. We’ll have counter space for a catch all basket, hooks for leashes and purses, space to hang jackets and coats, a bench for putting on your boots and of course shoe storage. Here’s the link to my Mudroom Pin Board and some of my top inspiration pictures below. The only thing they don’t show is a rod for hanging jackets/coats but I know that can easily be worked in. I would really be fine with everything being open and displayed BUT since it leads to our powder room it really does need to look fairly put together. We will not be doing any grout in the floor so most likely it will be luxury vinyl flooring…I love the idea of a herringbone pattern in here as well!

If anyone has any advice on what you need in a mudroom I’d love to hear it in the comments below. If you have locker style cabinets do they actually get used and are not in the way? I’m worried if we do cabinets then the doors will actually get in the way. Our space will be 10×10 which should be plenty of room for cabinet doors but once again we’re looking to marry functionality and style.

I can’t wait to share more rooms with you!

Jess

We have two custom lockers with seats with storage above and below. Idea was for the kids back packs, shoes, etc in the coat closet as you enter the back door. Well didn’t get happen but it is still a great area we use for seasonal storage. I do love your ideas you have pinned. 🙂

    • Haha that’s what I’m afraid of!! We’ll build it that way but in reality they won’t be used…I feel like we should keep it open rather than do the lockers…maybe just with hooks or a rod for hanging jackets…or half and half?!! Also it’s so easy to overthink all of this haha!
